What is a Track?

Startup Garage offers programming under three key themes, also known as tracks. This format allows our team to support founders and their unique needs based on their industry.

  • The Core Track is for entrepreneurs who are building hardware, software, services or consumables in any industry. This could be a new, innovative technology that disrupts an industry, or a consultancy for small businesses.

  • The Health Track is for entrepreneurs who are pursuing a startup that innovates in human health or healthcare. These founders are in one of three major streams: digital health/artificial intelligence, medical devices and technologies, and biotech/biopharma. The founders will benefit from programming from both the Entrepreneurship Hub and the Ottawa Health Innovation Hub. This track is open to entrepreneurs from across Ottawa’s health innovation ecosystem.

  • The Social Impact Track is for social entrepreneurs who are creating a solution to a social problem. These entrepreneurs will be offering a product or service for sale to solve a social problem to be considered a part of the Social Impact Track.

What is a Lane?

Founders may take a different path to grow their business. Startup Garage supports three common paths, also known as Lanes. This sequence allows our team to support founders and their growth trajectory based on the nature of their entrepreneurial endeavour.

  • The Solo Lane is for entrepreneurs who want to work for themselves. These founders are often targeting consumers or other small businesses with their product or service and want to keep their team small, maybe just the founder and a couple of others.

  • The Disrupt Lane is for the founder with a wild idea. Founders operating a startup under this model will be looking to disrupt within an industry or bring a new or innovative technology to market.

  • The Growth Lane is for the founder that is in a growing market and intends to grow to have a strong national or global presence. Founders within this model are targeting all types of customers – consumers, small businesses or enterprises through a variety of strategies.

Learning Styles

Startup Garage relies on three learning styles throughout the different phases of the program. Each style utilizes the optimal training and support options based on the founders' knowledge and needs at each stage.
